The initial image is my own work. The following pictures portray the reasons why I created a ‘waste train’ from waste materials.
As a form of protest against the immigration of toxic substances into West Germany, protestors sat along the railway tracks to block the toxicity from entering the country. The treatment they received was brutal, when they had only good intentions. It was a peaceful protest, it was a selfless protest. Who wouldn’t want to eleviate their country of toxic waste.
The disenfranchised boxes are supermarket cardboard trays used to transport fruit and veg. The fragile, disfigured crates represent the efforts of the protestors; futile, unheard and useless.
