Wow, this totally passed me by.
Demolition of the historic Town Hall in Bedford began at the beginning of January. An area at the back is still standing and looks like it’s fallen victim to an arson attack.
Some of the windows have been blown out.

I find that buildings made up almost entirely of windows seem unashamedly bureaucratic, as if they’re trying to maintain an element of transparency for the services they provide for the townspoeple.
When I noticed the burnt out windows around 40ft from the ground it was disruptive and unnerving. Not only because I’m used to seeing this building fully functioning, but the familiar structure now appears so unstable, at odds with the infallible image council buildings prefer to project.
Apparently Bedford will have a brand new 12 screen cinema right in the centre of town. I guess Cineworld on the outskirts of the town will be next on the chopping block…?
