Day 11 | Photo A Day | Target Practice

February 3, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

Here’s a sitting duck; or rather, a sitting female grouse.

I managed to quickly snap a picture of this notorisouly stupid bird before it garbled off into the purple heath.

I hope she didn’t meet her demise soon afterwards.

I call this one: Target Practice

Day Ten | Photo A Day | Kite Flying

February 2, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

It was pretty cold yesterday, and as a tiny person, I prefer to nap in front of the fire than brave the cold winds in February.

But, my boyfriend managed to convince me to go for a walk around Ampthill Park. I’m glad I did because I got some awesome shots of his son flying his 6ft kite.

Everyone at the park seemed to be in awe of this kite ripping through the air lifting my boyfrind’s son off the ground – including one dog who barked tirelessly at the kite (you’ll see the little scamp below!). Even I had a go but I was nearly blown away and never seen again

Like I said, I got some awesome shots, so I’ve got a couple of photos for you today – but here’s my favourite:

I made some canine friends

This is the naughty dog that would not stop barking at the kite!

I get the impression this dog didn’t like his owner as he wouldn’t leave my side. I like his face:

And here’s a really cute couple sitting on Breakheart hill:

Day Nine | Photo A Day | Crow Fair

January 30, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

As soon as I upgraded to a DSLR I was desperate to create beautiful imagery with beautiful depth of field.

There’s something that draws me to a picture where the atmosphere has been captured from the focal point of something within the scene. Kind of like an internal framing mechanism. But maybe there’s a technical photographic term for it.

Anyway, this is what I’ve attempted to do with today’s picture. In the foreground, a scavenger looks at me, whilst also looking out to Brighton Pier. I’ve called it “Crow Fair”

Day Three | A Photo A Day | Pink Elephant

January 23, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

I caught the worm this morning with this stunning picture of the sunrise.

The colours are so vivid, the shot required limited edits in Photoshop. All be it a little tweak with the contrast and levels.

I’ve called it pink elephant because it reminds me of the “trippy” drunk scene in Dumbo. Possibly still one of the finest montages in the history of animated film.

Here it is for your pleasure:

Day Two: A Photo a Day

January 22, 2014 by Zoe-Lee Skelton

Greetings from my sick bed. I roused myself to bring you this fine little number.

That’s dedication right there: in a snap shot.

So, in the spirit of “britishness”, a stiff upper lip and other clichés, here it is:

Day Two: Fall Down

To achieve this washed out look, I added a couple of adjustment layers (see below). The most dramatic was the Black and White Layer, with a custom tint  in this shade: #d1caba

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s photo !
